Last month, the Communications team participated in the United Nations Summit of the Future, distributing a flier on behalf of Population Connection, Population Matters, and Population Media Center. As a result of our two oral statements and three rounds of comments on drafts of the document leading up to the Summit, the final Pact for the Future includes:
Commitment 20: Strengthen cooperation among States in their response to demographic trends and realities, such as rapid population growth, declining birth rates, and ageing populations, as well as in addressing the interlinkages between population issues and development across all regions, taking into account the needs and interests of present and future generations, including children and youth, and the substantial contributions of older persons to sustainable development efforts.
We also submitted a joint written statement for the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, again working with staff from Population Matters and Population Media Center.
Additionally, we landed two prominent media placements in recent weeks. VP for Communications Marian Starkey's thoughtful op-ed (submitted on behalf of our sister organization, Population Connection Action Fund) was published in Ms. Magazine at the end of September:
Almost 100 Percent of U.S. Women Use Contraception—So Why Doesn’t Birth Control Have More Republican Support?
Then, earlier this month, Communications Manager Olivia Nater penned a response to a recent New York Times Article:
Letters: Hurricanes, Climate Change and the 2024 Election
