Hi John.
My top priorities are lowering costs and building an economy that works better for everyone.
There’s certainly a lot more work that needs to be done to grow our economy. That’s especially true when it comes to making life more affordable. But, I am pleased to share an update today on how we’re making further progress locally.
I helped pass a bipartisan law this year that secured federal resources for community projects throughout our region. They’re boosting our economy by modernizing roads and bridges, supporting responsible economic development, and by supporting community safety and our local police.

This year, I was glad to secure federal resources to facilitate the completion of modernizing the U.S. 69 highway. Specifically, it’ll help relocate, modify, and protect sanitary sewage lines along the highway.
My team worked in tandem with local officials and conducted detailed reviews on each community project proposal. It’s important to me to ensure they all met strong standards with a high return on investment. I’ve long fought for responsible budget policies to protect taxpayers, like pay-as-you-go rules. These investments maintain that commitment to fiscal responsibility while making a difference for Kansas.
Here are just a few community project highlights:
• Johnson County Regional Police Academy: I’m pleased to share that I secured $150,000 for the Johnson County Regional Police Academy. This builds on the more than $27 million in public safety grants I’ve helped secure for area law enforcement needs to protect Kansas families since taking office. This will help the academy purchase three new police vehicles. That will help ensure newly hired officers are prepared for real world situations and increase the academy's capacity to train future officers.
• Kansas Avenue Bridge Replacement: Replacing the Kansas Avenue Bridge marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance infrastructure and connectivity in our region, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for folks living in both Kansas and Missouri. The bridge has been closed for years, but previously supported 8,000 trips every day. I was pleased to work with local officials and my fellow Kansas congressional colleague, Representative Jake LaTurner, on this bipartisan request to improve our region’s infrastructure.
• Clean Water for Garnett: Every corner of our district deserves access to clean drinking water. That's why I was pleased to work with local officials and secure federal support to help construct a new water treatment plant in Garnett. This will help provide safe drinking water to 3,400 Kansans.
• Support for the City of De Soto and the New Panasonic Plant: I was also glad to work with local officials in De Soto to secure resources to replace aging equipment at the city’s water treatment plant and to build a new water tower. These projects will help ensure clean water for the city’s continued growth, including for Panasonic’s new battery plant that’s now under construction. Panasonic’s new battery plant is the largest-ever economic development project for Kansas, which I was glad to help support.
There’s certainly a lot more work to do. Too many people are still paying too much for everyday essentials like groceries, and both parties need to work together to make life more affordable.
But it’s also true that we’re seeing clear signs of progress locally. These community projects are boosting our region’s economic growth. This is about supporting good paying jobs, modernizing our region’s infrastructure, and our local law enforcement.
This all was possible because local, state, and federal officials worked together to make a difference for Kansans. I’m also pleased these resources were included in a law that earned broad, bipartisan support.
