Costumes, candy and parties make Halloween a lot of fun for children.
But did you know that Halloween is also a great time to incorporate imaginative play into your routine? Whether your little one has opted to be a princess, superhero or spooky, scary skeleton,

dressing up can be a fun way to learn critical thinking skills and how to manage emotions .
As a parent or family member you want to make sure your little one is having fun and staying safe while celebrating, but don’t forget that imaginative play isn’t just for children and that you can help take part, too!
If you’re not quite sure how to get started incorporating imaginative play into your routine, don’t be scared, our experts have some helpful tips for you for Halloween and beyond:
-
Ask your child what the character they dressed as for Halloween would do in different situations while you’re out trick or treating or at home.
-
Try asking simple questions about a toy your child is playing with, for example “Is your baby hungry?” to start a conversation with different prompts to have your child think critically.
-
Use different toys at bath-time to help your child learn new vocabulary words and consider cause and effect. For more tips and information, be sure to check out our
