[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy
See this? It's one of my first posts on Twitter about the Supreme Court gutting Arizona’s public financing of elections.
*Supremes just struck down AZ's campaign finance reform law. Corporations, rich people win AGAIN. The rest of us lose.*
This garbage ruling by five right-wing justices built upon their Citizens United decision — unleashing the exorbitant sums of money we see spent by super PACs and special interests today to buy elections.
I share this because I want you to know that getting big money out of politics is not a new issue to me. I’ve long believed that a fundamental problem in our democracy is the amount of power politicians have given to corporations and wealthy special interests.
So when it came time for me to run for re-election this year, I wanted to make clear that I wanted no part of this broken system. I wanted to make sure you always knew that I was fighting for you and putting the people first. That’s why I decided I could no longer accept corporate or PAC money, even though it would cost my re-election millions of dollars.
I still believe we can turn this trend around. It doesn’t have to be this way. We can overturn Citizens United and make sure corporations and billionaires like Elon Musk aren’t allowed to buy elections.
But it's important to say — it’s impossible without the support of people like you.
Your response to emails like this allows me to focus my time on the things you expect of a Senator. I don't have to spend all day on the phone begging donors for money.
Emails like this are how we get most of our donations.
I want to keep my job in the Senate and continue working to upend our broken status quo. So I am fighting hard to win re-election. But I need your help once again, to get it done:
Can I count on you to use this link to contribute $5, $10 or whatever you can afford to my re-election campaign today? I am hoping for lots and lots of donations to show that you are with me on this issue.

Every best wish,
