But nothing is more critical to our success than keeping hate from poisoning the minds and hearts of the next generation. As the disturbing prevalence of hate crimes in schools shows, they are now on the front lines in the battle against far-right extremism. We’re taking on so-called “parental rights” groups like Moms for Liberty that spew homophobic and transphobic speech, embrace racist ideology, denigrate lessons on diversity and inclusion, and demand that America’s racial history be whitewashed. Our litigators are challenging educational gag laws and other measures that attack LGBTQ+ children and silence Black students and other minority groups. And, we’re partnering with the Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab (PERIL) at American University to create free resources to help communities confront and build resilience against online hate propaganda that can radicalize young people. Friend, will you make a special gift to the SPLC during Hate Crimes Awareness Month? Your gift will help broaden the impact of our anti-bias and radicalization-prevention resources, which are always provided to communities free of charge.
