Shared Lives helps give a little extra support for Oldham Carers
The Shared Lives team in Oldham have been working hard to support carers who have been isolated during the current crisis. Working with partners it has set up support networks for the most vulnerable carers. Carers have been receiving visits, getting help with shopping, having deliveries of medication and personal protective equipment when needed.
Importantly they have also been organising breaks for carers to allow them to take time out from their duties, to do things like go for a walk. Often when Shared Lives have popped round it’s been the simple things, like having a chat over the fence with the carer that has really helped people get through the day.
Kate Morgan, Oldham Shared Lives Scheme manager, said, “All this has given carers a sense of belonging to the wider ‘caring’ community while at the same time ensuring that they have been able to maintain their support and moral through these very difficult and stressful times".
