John—
We’re living in an age of escalating politically motivated threats, attacks, and assassination attempts. And all the while, the gun industry has encouraged, exploited, and amplified this violence just to boost its own profits.
That’s the focus of GIFFORDS Law Center’s latest report, Engines of Extremism: How the Gun Industry Profits from Fear. Over the past year, we dove deep into the gun industry’s playbook, examining its strategic manipulation of fear through dangerous marketing and rhetoric—and its detrimental effect on our democracy.
The gun lobby isn’t afraid to endanger our lives or our democracy just to make some extra cash. Help us fight back.
The report highlights key actors partaking in political violence—including militarized extremist groups like the Proud Boys—and demonstrates how gun lobby groups like the NRA have made the most of weak gun laws and fear-based marketing to embolden—and arm—extremists.
The gun industry knows that extremism and fear are the two most persuasive advertising tools it has. To protect public safety, we must hold the gun industry accountable for its role in perpetuating violence, especially political violence, and demand stronger gun laws from our legislators.
