Last week in the House of Commons, I chose to answer a question from Conservative MP Larry Brock in French, to which he replied, “The question is in English, but I digress.”
It’s insulting, friend.

That’s an insult to all bilingual Canadians, including Conservatives. It’s contempt for the fundamental choice we have to express ourselves in the language we choose.
This behaviour from the Conservatives is disappointing – but not surprising. Remember last year when Rachael Thomas asked Pascale St-Onge to answer her questions in English?
Bilingualism is a fundamental principle of our country, friend, and that’s only one threat Pierre Poilievre and his Conservatives pose to Canadians. The reality is, they put all of the progress our Liberal team has made at stake.
Our Liberal team will always stand up for bilingualism in Canada – and we need to work together to protect it.
Chip in now towards the Re-election Fund to ensure Justin Trudeau and our Liberal team are ready to go the moment an election is called.
