In the middle of the pandemic, FAMM’s Video team decided to find out how second chance legislation was unfolding in FAMM’s own backyard. We started following three D.C. men—Anthony "Pete" Petty, Gene Downing, and Colie Levar Long—who were behind bars for violent crimes committed in their youth. Thanks to second chance reform, they now had the chance to petition for their freedom.
FAMM has long supported this kind of legislation, driven by the belief that people like Pete, Gene, and Colie change over time–and incarceration long past the point of necessity makes no one safer.
We hope to see you at a screening next month!
Sincerely,
