John,

We are gearing up for a historic election this November. Your ballot will contain critical races—including President and Vice President, U.S. Congress, NY State Congress, judges, and ballot proposals, depending on where you live in our state.

Amid this crucial election, New Yorkers have the direct power to affirm immigrant rights and protect communities at risk regardless of the outcome of the Presidential race by voting YES on Prop 1, in support of the Equal Rights Amendment.

Prop 1 ensures that all New Yorkers are protected against discrimination ([link removed]) by the government, regardless of their nation of origin, age, ethnicity, pregnancy status, disability status, or queer identity.

We cannot take our rights as a given. Voting YES will be a critical step to protecting the rights of every New Yorker. The proposed amendment has been under attack by powerful, anti-immigrant, and anti-abortion extremist groups arguing the ballot undermines ‘family values.’ We have seen these lies before and we will not be deterred. Vote ‘YES’ and enshrine Prop 1 in our state constitution to protect it from future rollbacks or overturns by extremists. This is a win for us and for our future generations.

Not all ballot propositions safeguard the rights of all New Yorkers; in fact, some undermine them. For voters in New York City, Proposals 2-6 seek to increase the Mayor’s power at the expense of everyday New Yorkers. The NYIC urges New York City voters to vote NO on Proposals 2 through 6 to preserve accountability within our city government.

There is much at stake this election – we need to cement our rights in the New York Constitution by voting YES on Prop 1! Learn more about what all you’ll see on your ballot here! ([link removed])

In power,

Wennie Chin
