It’s been a long night, maybe it’s now a few hours into the next morning.
The U.S. House Majority has been too close to call all night. Republican Speaker Mike Johnson is optimistic about keeping control, but there are a few outstanding seats still too close to call in California.
Suddenly, a newscaster interrupts John King or Steve Kornacki with a major projection.
A previously red seat in California has just been projected for the Democratic Party. Maybe it’s CA-13, CA-27, CA-45, CA-41 or CA-22. But this key pickup means that Democrats will take back control of the U.S. House.
The talking heads on TV are shocked.
“Democrats organized earlier than ever in California,” one commentator says. "Grassroots supporters invested in these key races early by deploying organizers, opening regional offices, mobilizing volunteers, and contacting voters.”
“Don’t forget about their major GOTV push in the last weekend before the election,” another commentator says. “The California Democratic Party had a surge in resources in the week before the election that allowed them to launch more canvases, organize more phone banks, and print more literature.”
