John -- this is a long email about how my journey in public service started. I hope you’ll take a moment to read the entire message, then consider chipping in a donation to support my campaign to improve lives in CA-30 and beyond.

Sixteen years ago, I completed my final treatment for breast cancer.

Surviving breast cancer made me realize I couldn’t put off the things I was passionate about, and it made me reevaluate the impact that I could make on the world with whatever time I was privileged enough to have.

At that time, the city of Glendale hadn't had a woman on its council in over a decade, and had elected less than ten women in its almost hundred-year history. Glendale had a conservative council, unwilling to stop the Glendale gun show from operating on city property, and uninterested in making environmental sustainability a priority.

So I decided to do something about it. I ran for city council.

What started as just me and a handful of women -- stuffing envelopes and walking precincts -- turned into one of the largest grassroots campaigns we'd seen in years. The morning after election day, I was the top vote-getter despite running against three incumbents.

Here’s the truth: I've never considered myself a politician.

This has always been about bringing people together to address the very real issues we all face, and that won't change when I’m in Congress.

I'll continue to advocate for us. We need solutions to issues like affordable housing and the cost of living. Our government needs to treat health care like a human right accessible to all. And we need to tackle the climate crisis with the urgency it deserves.

But if we’re going to pass our biggest test yet, it’s going to take overwhelming grassroots support.

So I have to ask:

Will you chip in $5 to support my campaign for Congress? There’s nothing we can’t accomplish when we work together.
