Friend — this is big. Leaders in the House have just outlined a new COVID-19 relief bill that could be a gamechanger.

The bill provides support for frontline workers and requires that utilities keep providing water and energy to peoples' homes. It gives response funding to state and local governments. And it sets up election assistance funding to ensure voters have safe access to the ballot during the pandemic.

This is setting up a major fight. Trump has personally called for bailout funds to go to the oil industry and is pushing for another tax cut. Mitch McConnell is arguing to waive liability for companies that force their employees back to work during the pandemic. This is a bill with policies that have support from both parties — and neither Trump nor McConnell's priorities made it into the bill.

We're not sure we have the votes, and the bill is expected to hit the floor this week. We're organizing grassroots pressure on every member of Congress — but we need to keep this up.

At this moment, the best thing you can do to help swing this vote is to make an emergency donation.

Please, friend — make an emergency donation today. Every contribution is being triple matched — and even $5 is enough to make a difference »

You can truly make a difference right now. This pandemic is fundamentally changing the future of environmental policy in our country — it's a moment when the environmental movement cannot stay silent.

Under cover of the pandemic, the Trump administration has suspended enforcement of environmental laws at the EPA, with no end date.

They've also permanently undercut EPA safety measures to reduce mercury and other toxic air pollutants. These are pollutants that have already been linked to higher COVID-19 death rates all over the country. Amid a public health crisis, where tens of thousands of people are dying from a virus that directly targets the respiratory system, the Trump administration is actively making it harder for people to breathe.

This is quite literally a matter of life and death.

These attacks also disproportionately affect low-income folks and communities of color, who are already more likely to live in areas with high levels of air pollution, and therefore have a higher risk of dying from this virus.

The upcoming vote could start to turn this around. A relief bill that actually gives support to the people who need it most is on the table. And it would sustain state and local essential services and safeguard the elections in November. It's up to us to get this passed, and we can't do it without you.

We need to organize and get the whole environmental movement to raise hell, now more than ever.

Please: Donate before the vote — before it's too late to make a difference. Every emergency contribution is being tripled right now »

The future of our country's environmental legacy is at stake — and we promise, we'll never stop fighting. Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,
