Welcome to Texas!

What to Know: Elon Musk, furious as his California community’s restrictions (and likely the high taxes), says he could move Tesla’s manufacturing facilities to Texas immediately.

The TPPF Take: Who can blame him?

“He’s channeling his inner Davy Crockett, who famously said, ‘you may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas,’” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “He’s operating the last remaining auto manufacturing facility in California. It’s the last one because it’s so expensive to manufacture there. If he comes to Texas, with less regulation and lower taxes—including no state income tax—he can make a whole lot more money.”

Shaping the Future

What to Know: The Lieutenant Governor’s Texans Back to Work Task Force has made its reports, and says that going forward, virtual learning will be more important than ever.

The TPPF Take: In April, TPPF submitted 10 recommendations for improving virtual learning in Texas. We’re glad to see that the task force agrees some updates are in order.

“Many Texas students are missing educational time that is key to their development as students, whether they are in their final year of high school preparing for college, or in the critical years of early literacy,” says TPPF’s Emily Sass. “The impact of this lost time for so many students may be felt for years to come if actions are not taken to ensure our children have the fullest possible access to educational material.”

Let’s Close with Something Uplifting

What to Know: TPPF has a new video focusing on a local business in Austin, Hopdoddy Burger Bar, which has donated more than 5,000 burgers to hungry health care workers and first responders.
