Hey John,
The Animal Liberation Online Assembly is the largest ever virtual gathering of animal rights activists. During a time of physical distancing, stay connected and find community! Through a series of events, you can be part of a movement that is bringing people together from around the world to achieve revolutionary social and political change for animals! Join the assembly this week, where Jenny McQueen, Lauren Reegan, and Priya Sawhney will discuss why controversial actions help the animal rights movement. The Making Vegans Look Bad panel will be this Saturday, May 16th at 1 PM PDT.
All are welcome, including those new to activism and veganism. To attend and stay updated with event details, you must register for free at dxe.io/ALOA if you haven't already. You will receive more information (call-in links and instructions) after you register.
Together, we will put liberation into action with our own hearts, minds, and hands.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all will be taking place in Pacific Time, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Tuesday, May 12th, 5:30 PM: How to Win: Civil Disobedience to Make History - Join us as we review the ins and outs of organizing a complex action that has a civil disobedience element. Learn skills like picking an appropriate target, building and training a team, framing your messaging, jail support, and more. This event is part of the Animal Liberation Online Assembly; you will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
Registrarse - dxe.io/ALOA
- Thursday, May 14th, 5:30 PM: Listening and Communicating with Compassion - His colleagues say MLK spent more than 60% of his time managing internal conflict in the civil rights movement. Communication might be the most important skill any serious activist or organizer can develop, and our habitual way of communicating is not helping. We'll practice some of the principles and methods of Nonviolent Communication. This event is also part of the Animal Liberation Online Assembly; you will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Friday, May 15th, 5:30 PM: Discussion: Community Reading Challenge, "This is an Uprising" - We've been reading this book together over the past three weeks, and since it's about the most cutting edge, exciting social movement theory and practice best practices, we want to get together and share what we've learned and brainstorm ways to apply it to DxE! Check the event page closer to the date for Zoom link.
- Saturday, May 16th, 11 AM: Meetup: Stories from the Community - While we are all united for animal liberation, everyone in the community comes from different backgrounds and experiences. We each have a unique and amazing story to share. Our hope with the Stories from the Community Meetups us to give a space for people in the DxE community to share and for us to learn about and appreciate each other! The more we understand and support each other, the strong our community becomes. During shelter-in-place we have not only shifted Meetups online, but also shifted the focus from informative presentations to social hangouts! That's why for the whole month of May we are doing Stories from the Community and offering a space for us to connect and hear from our friends in the DxE community! To receive the Zoom call-in link, see instructions in the event page details.
- Sunday, May 17th, 10 AM: The Internet: Asset or Weakness - Enabling connection from all corners of the world and providing new ways to take action, the internet is a powerful tool. During this time of physical distancing, it is especially important to our movement. Our greatest asset can also be our greatest weakness, and this training will teach you precautions you can take when using technology in animal activism. This event is also part of the Animal Liberation Online Assembly; you will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Help Ban Dietary Racism (Call to action) - Help send a message to the US Dietary Guidelines Committee that dairy has no place on our plates as a food group for humans. If we get enough comments opposing the inclusion of dairy in dietary guidelines, there is a lot of pressure we can place on the committee. Use this link to submit a comment: https://www.regulations.gov/comment?D=FNS-2019-0001-6698. We have until June 1st to make comments!
