Here's what's at stake today (a lot).

ACLU Supporter –

Today, in its second week of remote arguments broadcast live, the Supreme Court takes on three momentous cases – all seeking to answer one pivotal question: is the president above the law?

Our answer to that is a resounding, "No." But how the Court deliberates will have profound impacts on both the power Trump holds and on our democracy. So before tuning in, take a moment to learn more about this trio of cases and the arguments we've made in each.

There's a lot at stake right now:

In Trump v. Vance, Trump v. Mazars, and Trump v. Deutsche Bank, the president is attempting to block subpoenas for personal financial records, most notably his tax returns. By doing so, he's obstructing legal investigations of a grand jury and congressional committees – and he thinks he has full authority to do so.

Here's what we have to say: President Trump, like all of us, has no right to block lawfully issued subpoenas. The friend-of-the-court briefs that we filed with SCOTUS for all three of these cases make that argument clear – and so does existing law.

ACLU Supporter, what happens today will go to the core of some of our most fundamental constitutional commitments, so we want you to be as informed as possible. Please read more on our critical reasons for urging SCOTUS to enforce the subpoenas for Trump's documents today.

The fact is, Trump and his lawyers are seeking an immunity that no previous president has claimed before. When Presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton made less far-reaching assertions of immunity, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected them. Lower courts in these cases, guided by those precedents, have uniformly rejected the president's arguments as well. Now, it's up to the Supreme Court to listen to Trump's appeals and decide.

But the ACLU will be listening, too. And as we ready ourselves for whatever the fight ahead may be, we are grateful to have you with us.

Thank you for reading,
