Dear A.,

We are following a number of important stories this week in Israel, in Washington, and across the Middle East.

Three Arab Gulf states are actively

cooperating with Israel’s health system in the fight against COVID-19. Top representatives from the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain requested help from Sheba Medical Center to install telemedicine solutions to help treat patients remotely.

After 90% of Congress signed a bipartisan letter last week to Secretary of State Pompeo urging an extension of the U.N. arms embargo on Iran, our attention now turns to another critical legislative agenda item—countering hostilities against America and Israel at the ICC.

We are also tracking developments in Israel, where researchers continue collaborating with their American counterparts to battle COVID-19.

In the AIPAC This Week below, find information on taking action with Congress, and read recommended articles.

I hope you continue to stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Brian Shankman

Oppose Attacks Against Israel at the ICC.

AIPAC is urging Congress to sign bipartisan letters in the Senate and House encouraging continued support for the U.S. and Israel against illegitimate attacks by the ICC.

Israeli Firm Uncovers Iran-linked Attempt to Hack U.S. Virus Drug Maker Gilead

As the world confronts the coronavirus pandemic, Iran continues to spend resources on threatening America and Israel rather than helping its own people.

An Israeli cybersecurity firm uncovered an attempt by Iranian hackers to breach U.S. drug company Gilead Sciences, which is working on a treatment for COVID-19.

This is only the latest example of Iranian cyberattacks against America. Last month, a group of senators highlighted Iran and its allies’ use of cyberattacks against American healthcare facilities since the coronavirus pandemic began.

Iran is the root of the challenges facing America and Israel in the Middle East.

Middle East Update: COVID-19 AIPAC Memo

Initial analyses of coronavirus in the Middle East will be tentative due to crucial information gaps. Most Arab states, for example, have published very low coronavirus infection rates. We have the most information regarding Israel, because of its prompt and transparent response to the crisis, and Iran, because of its tardy and opaque one.

America & Israel: A Partnership that Benefits Us
The U.S.-Israel relationship is a mutually beneficial partnership that reinforces America’s moral values and strategic interests. This relationship with the only democracy in the Middle East is a key pillar of America’s regional security framework.

Today, some have proposed reducing our ties with Israel because they object to the potential decision by Israel’s leaders to extend Israeli sovereignty to parts of the West Bank. Doing anything to weaken this vital relationship would be a mistake.
