Scientists studying the spread of COVID have found a disturbing trend: across the country, Black Americans are disproportionately hardest hit by the virus.
Systemic inequalities are largely to blame, with one epidemiologist citing lack of insurance and crowded living conditions as contributing factors to the toll taken on communities of color.
According to Dr. Patrick Sullivan, professor of epidemiology at Emory University, the situation “calls for interventions like considering emergency enrollment for the Affordable Care Act.”
