Dear supporter,
I wanted to let you know that John Burn, our founder and first Chairman, has died aged 86.
After a long illness and surrounded by Christian friends, John went to be with the Lord on Friday 25 October.
We praise God for the instrumental role he played in the life of The Christian Institute from its inception through to the final weeks of his earthly life, marked by unstinting service, biblical wisdom, warmth of character, and a mischievous sense of humour.
We grieve our loss, but we rejoice in the sure and certain hope that he no longer sees “through a glass, darkly”, but beholds his Lord and Saviour “face to face” (1 Cor. 13:12, KJV).
It has been a difficult year for the Institute. First our Director and dear brother in Christ, Colin Hart, was taken into glory in March; now we have lost John. But we know that both of them now stand in that great cloud of heavenly witnesses to God’s saving and sustaining grace.
We have published an obituary where you can read more about how God used this remarkable man in the life of our nation.
If you knew John, and would like details of the funeral, which will be in Newcastle upon Tyne, please reply to this email with your name, address and contact telephone number.
Please pray that John’s many friends would know God’s comfort and peace as we come to terms with this loss.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. – Psalm 116:15
