Hi Comrades,
The election is one week away, and at GGJ, we know that whatever the results, the next few months will bring a multitude of changes, risks, and tasks for our movements.
We’ve spent the last few months preparing our organization to support the communities that we’re accountable to, not only in this political moment, but in the moments that will follow.
Our goal is to build long-term power in collaboration with our members, partners, and allies. We will use that power to transform the conditions that our communities face — by bringing resources and support to the folks who need it the most.
We’ve significantly increased our civic engagement work over this period to push back against anti-immigration rhetoric, anti-abortion policies, and to advance demands for a ceasefire in Gaza and an arms embargo against Israel.
This includes engaging in short-term and long-term scenario planning that identifies the probable threats within different election outcomes; and developing rapid response and community defense plans that will allow us to meet the moment while moving our own Divest from Harm, Invest in Care policy demands at the local, state, and federal levels.
There will be no shortage of crises to respond to as the results of the election become clearer, which means we are also focused on building the infrastructure we’ll need to advance visionary policies and solutions that we know will benefit BIPOC and working class people.
Lastly, we know that the rise of facism will not come to an end even if they lose on November 5, so we’re positioning ourselves to intentionally block the right-wing extremist forces that seek to harm our communities by building broad united fronts that can contest for power.
We’ve only been able to do any of this because of your support. As we countdown to next week’s historic election and plan for what happens after, we’ll need even more of that support to keep going. Every donation you give strengthens our movement and prepares us for the work ahead.
Thank you for all the contributions you’ve given so far, and for the ones to come.
In the meantime — we’ll see you at work,
Kermit Thomas, Jr. Political and Civic Engagement Director |
