Dear John -
This week, we’re celebrating Bat Week 🦇 – a global celebration dedicated to raising awareness about the vital role bats play in ecosystems around the world, including the Boundary Waters. These amazing creatures eat thousands of insects (including mosquitos!), pollinate flowers, and help forests thrive by spreading seeds.
One bat in particular, the northern long-eared bat, faces severe threats not only from disease but also from pollution and habitat destruction due to proposed sulfide-ore copper mining. Now, there’s an even more urgent danger: Anti-Wilderness members of Congress are pushing a bill that could further decimate their already fragile population.
Rep. Stauber introduced a resolution to remove the northern long-eared bat from the Endangered Species List – even though these bats are threatened with extinction. If passed, this bill would not only threaten the bat’s survival, but it would also jeopardize the entire Boundary Waters ecosystem.
We need your help to fight back and protect the wildlife of the Wilderness.
Donate today, and we’ll send you a limited-edition northern long-eared bat sticker as a token of our appreciation – a reminder of the work we’re doing together to protect the Boundary Waters and the species that depend on them.
