John,
The majority of the Georgia State Election Board’s last-minute election rule changes have been halted by the Georgia Supreme Court and will not go into effect before the election. We’re proud in particular of the role we played, along with co-counsel, in blocking the rule that would have mandated hand counting of all ballots cast on Election Day.
But the work to protect the election is far from over, John.
In our research, CREW identified 35 rogue election officials across the country who have already refused to certify election results, and could be in the position to do so again.
But the good news is that we also identified the legal remedies in key states to protect election certification. You can read all about it in our recent report.
County officials have a mandatory, non-discretionary, entirely ministerial duty to certify the results of the election. But these rogue election officials in critical swing states have already indicated a willingness to turn their backs on that duty. So we can’t stop our fight to shut down efforts to sabotage the certification process just yet.
Voters in Georgia and in every state should feel confident that their votes will be counted fairly. We all deserve a free and fair election, and every citizen deserves to have their fundamental right to vote protected.
We’ll do everything in our power to protect the certification of the 2024 election. Please support our work with a donation today →
