Judith Curry (8/14/19) blog: "The latest travesty in consensus ‘enforcement’, published by Nature. There is a new paper published in Nature, entitled Discrepancies in scientific authority and media visibility of climate change scientists and contrarians...This ranks as the worst paper I have ever seen published in a reputable journal...Note that this list of climate science ‘contrarians’ is heavily populated by experts in climate dynamics, i.e. how the climate system actually works. The most comical categorization on this list is arguably Scott Denning, who strongly supports the IPCC Consensus, and gave a talk to this effect at an early Heartland Conference.  Ironically, Scott Denning tweeted this article, apparently before he realized he was on the list of contrarians."

E&E News (8/14/19) reports: "A coalition of environmental and indigenous groups are pushing Democratic presidential candidates to pledge to quickly act to stop construction of the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline. The groups, led by Bold Nebraska and the Indigenous Environmental Network, launched a campaign yesterday asking that on their first day in office, candidates revoke the presidential permit for the Canada-to-Texas project and also work to shut down the existing Dakota Access pipeline via its federal permits...While Warren and Inslee are the only candidates who said they would sign the new pledge, most Democrats running for president have promised to greatly reduce or eliminate the use of fossil fuels and infrastructure to carry them, as proposed in the Green New Deal."

Fox News (8/13/19) reports: "President Trump visited the Keystone State Tuesday to visit Shell's soon-to-be-completed Pennsylvania Petrochemicals Complex...In wide-ranging remarks, Trump told thousands of workers clad in fluorescent orange and yellow vests about the strength of the economy and the new investments energy companies are making in the United States. However, at one point he turned his attention to the failings of his home state -- New York -- in energy and other areas. 'Just compare the enormous success here in Pennsylvania with the tremendous folly happening right across a line, a little line in New York. Both states have vast energy reserves. But New York prohibits development while Pennsylvania welcomes it,' said Trump. 'From 2010 to 2017 natural gas production plummeted by nearly 70 percent in New York,' said Trump, adding that 'New York won't allow us to build a pipeline.'"

Steyer's new favorite way to spend his fortune made from coal.


CNBC (8/13/19) reports: "After piling money into ads, billionaire Tom Steyer has hit the donor requirement for the next 2020 Democratic presidential debate, his campaign said Tuesday. The former hedge-fund manager and activist reached the 130,000 individual donor mark required to make the debate stage in Houston next month. Steyer now needs to garner 2% of support in one more qualifying poll to join nine other Democrats in the debate...Steyer’s campaign shelled out $2.9 million on Facebook ads in the 30 days from July 13 to Aug. 11, according to the company’s ads archive. The total nearly tripled the next biggest spender in the Democratic field — Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a New York Democrat whose campaign put just more than $1 million into Facebook ads during the same period."

The solar scam revealed.


North State Journal (8/14/19) reports: "A seven-month investigation and numerous public information requests have revealed the move to increase solar power might be leading to an increase in the very emissions alternative energy sources aim to reduce. Duke spokeswoman Kim Crawford confirmed that increased solar power on the state’s electric grid is increasing emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx), a dangerous air pollutant. She said that reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions could also reverse if current solar growth continues without policy changes...Crawford provided measurements showing that even on sunny days — when solar power is at its maximum output — more NOx pollution is released into the air than would occur if no solar electricity were used and natural gas were used instead."
