Pennsylvania: Game Commission Extends the Expiration of Current Shooting Range Permits
Last week, the Pennsylvania Game Commission put out a press release announcing that all 2019-20 shooting range permits will remain valid for an additional two months (through August 31, 2020.)

Virginia: Indoor Ranges to Reopen
On Friday, May 8th, Governor Ralph Northam issued Executive Order 61 outlining “Phase One” of easing restrictions that were put into place to address the COVID-19 crisis. Indoor shooting ranges will be permitted to reopen on Friday, May 15th, with certain requirements on occupancy, physical distancing, face coverings, and sanitation.

Florida NRA Case to Protect Second Amendment Rights of Young Adults Moves Forward
NRA's effort to vindicate the Second Amendment rights of young adults in Florida in the case NRA v. Swearingen has passed an important milestone. On Friday May 1, the Chief U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Florida Mark E. Walker denied almost all of the state's motion to dismiss, allowing the case to move forward. Citing the relevant caselaw, Walker noted that NRA's complaint "contains 'enough facts to state a claim to relief that is plausible on its face."

The Streak Continues: April Sets NICS Record
April 2020 set another record for background checks conducted through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Check System (NICS). The FBI NICS office conducted 2,911,128 background checks last month – a nearly 25% increase from the previous April, which had been the previous record high for the month of April.

Federal Judge Enjoins Massachusetts Gun Store Lockdown
Last week, Judge Douglas P. Woodlock of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued a preliminary injunction that allows gun stores to resume operation in the Bay State as long as they adhere to a set of social distancing guidelines. The ruling is an important victory in the fight to protect Second Amendment rights during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
