In a moment I’m going to ask you to pitch in $5 or whatever you can give to help my team catch up to our final monthly fundraising goal before Election Day. But first I want to tell you a bit about why my work in Congress is so important, and why your support really, truly matters in this fight. When I talk to many of my colleagues in Congress, I don’t encounter a lot of people who walked the same path that I did to get there. I was born into a working class family here in Colorado – my mom was a hairdresser, and my dad worked in construction. But when my mom was overprescribed opioids following a back injury, it kicked off a decades-long battle with addiction. For years, things in my family definitely weren’t easy. But with the support of some incredible teachers — and a community that invested in high-quality public education — I was given a chance. I became the first person in my family to graduate from high school and college. I started working for candidates and organizations that were committed to leveling the playing field for regular people like me and my family. Eventually, I won a hard-fought race to serve in the Colorado legislature, working to ensure that every Coloradan had the same opportunities that I did to build a better life. After ten years advocating for JeffCo in the State House and Senate, I ran for Congress here in CO-07 to bring the fight to Washington. I ran for Congress to deliver meaningful results for families whose needs too often go overlooked in Washington. And I’m proud that that’s exactly what I’ve done during my first term in Congress. But I also know that there is still so much work to be done – lowering costs for families, protecting our health care, securing investments for the American people, keeping our communities safe, and so much more. Thank you for reading and having my back. It means the world to me to have your support at this make-or-break moment for our campaign. Brittany Pettersen |
