Dear John,
Last spring, I heard Vice President Kamala Harris say something that really struck me: “This is not a moment to throw up our hands. Instead, let’s roll up our sleeves.”
The Presidential election is about a week away. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but we do know this: ELPC is ready.
We’ve been scenario planning for various election outcomes, not making predictions. ELPC is prepared to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities at both the Midwest regional and state levels, as well as the federal level. Both-and, not either-or.
Thank you for being part of the ELPC community. Your engagement and support help to make this work possible. Every day, the talented ELPC team rolls up their sleeves to protect the Great Lakes and the Midwest’s vital natural resources, promote sustainable transportation, and advance clean energy and climate solutions across the Midwest.
Because ELPC works in nine states from the Great Lakes to the Great Plains — as well as in Washington DC — we can shift our attention to state opportunities when the federal government is hostile, and vice versa.
We continue to work with our partners to successfully build bipartisan support in Congress to protect and restore the Great Lakes — even when the executive branch is hostile. We are nimble and strategic — even with the ever-changing landscape in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.
ELPC pivots to the best strategic opportunities to succeed: Offense to accelerate climate solutions and better protect our environment, and defense to protect our environment and public health where necessary.
We will soon share ELPC’s 2024 annual report, where you’ll learn about our wins and significant progress as well as the challenges ahead to protect the Midwest’s environment. Exciting and important work is happening. ELPC is getting things done.
Thank you for all you do to help ELPC succeed in protecting the Midwest’s environment, people and communities.
No matter what happens on November 5th and the weeks that follow, ELPC will continue working hard and effectively to protect healthy clean air, clean drinking water, and the right to live in communities without toxic threats for all people in the Midwest.
Let’s roll up our sleeves and keep getting things done!
Best wishes all,
