In the wake of COVID-19, more than 33 million of our fellow American workers have had to file for unemployment. And in a country that still ties health insurance to employment instead of guaranteeing it as a human right, it's estimated that up to 35 million Americans will lose their health care coverage.
This would be unthinkable in any other democracy — especially during a pandemic. But because of big money’s stranglehold on Congress, it’s our sad and dangerous reality.
The truth is that if our neighbors and families in our communities can't see a doctor, they can't stop the spread of the virus. That puts all of us at greater risk. That's why we need Medicare For All. But it's also why I’ve introduced the Medicare Crisis Program Act — to expand Medicare and Medicaid eligibility during this crisis, urgently getting health care coverage to everyone who needs it. It'll make them healthier while also making all of us healthier.

Health Care is Human Right
Medicare is the most efficient way to quickly provide high-quality health care for the unemployed and their families — and at a far lower cost than schemes that use private insurance.
In fact, if taxpayers foot the bill for employer-based coverage, the costs would be double that of Medicare. Medicare isn’t only more effective and more popular, it’s also cheaper.
Despite the facts, some members of Congress are supporting the employer-based alternative and we need your help to get their support for the Medicare Crisis Protection Act.
Health care should be a human right. That's why I support Medicare For All. Sign here to demand that Congress take immediate action to pass my legislation so we can cover everyone during this COVID-19 pandemic.
We’re all in this together,
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal
