Friends, I know things are busy. If you don’t have time to read this whole email, I’ll ask right now: Will you chip in any amount to support Tim’s re-election campaign? He’s working around the clock to turn out Democratic voters in every corner of Virginia, and he needs our support.
If you do have a few minutes, I’d like to talk to you about my friend Tim Kaine. If you mention Tim to anyone who knows him — whether it's a member of his church congregation who sang with him in the choir or a Republican senator who works with him across the aisle — you're likely to hear the same thing: Tim is a relentless optimist.
It’s that optimism, learned from his mom Kathy, that drives his belief that no problem is unsolvable, so long as you’re willing to put in the work.
His commitment to solving problems and delivering results has been clear throughout his career, from his time as a civil rights lawyer in Richmond to his tenure as Governor of Virginia and his two terms serving in the U.S. Senate.
Listen, I could give you a laundry list of things he’s accomplished during that career — from fighting housing discrimination to lowering prescription drug costs to helping cut child poverty in half — but what I believe is most important to know about Tim is that he's sincerely motivated by the belief that you can make a difference in people's lives through public service.
When I ran for president eight years ago, that was a huge part of why I chose him as my running mate. And when we lost that election, it gave me great hope and comfort to know that Tim would remain on the front lines of our democracy, representing Virginia in the Senate.
This November, Tim is up for re-election, and his opponent — like many Republicans running for office around the country — is a self-described MAGA follower who has been endorsed by Donald Trump.
You and I both know how important this election is — leaving Trumpism unchecked in any corner of our country is not an option.
We also both know that grassroots donors have the power to drive Democratic victories, so I’m asking you today: Will you pitch in $20, or whatever amount is meaningful to you, to elect Tim Kaine and defeat Trumpism in Virginia this November?
Losing the 2016 election was hard — for all of us. It's also hard to continue fighting, day after day and year after year, for the America we still believe in. But what would be hardest of all is giving up — especially when the stakes are so high.
One thing I can say for certain about Tim Kaine is that he will never stop fighting for you. Guided by his love of this country and his care for the people he serves, he will continue to do all the good he can, for all the people he can, in all the ways he can, as long as ever he can.
Meanwhile, Tim’s opponent is more focused on tearing people down and parroting Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric than actually getting things done:
He has peddled conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and even pledged to release and seek compensation for January 6th insurrectionists. He wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act and put Social Security on the chopping block. He has even compared abortion to the Holocaust, and has supported legislation that would drastically limit access to reproductive care.
Believe me — I know a dangerous Republican extremist when I see one. We can’t afford to let Tim Kaine’s opponent anywhere near the U.S. Senate.
Will you help make sure Tim can defeat his extreme opponent and keep doing good for Virginia families in the Senate? Your contribution to his re-election campaign will go directly towards critical voter outreach in this final stretch.
