The state has a stranglehold on education. From kindergarten to postgraduate programs in public institutions, students are indoctrinated with state narratives on the virtues of economic and legal interventionism.

Some conservative governors are battling the progressive leftists’ takeover of the education system by banning DEI programs, altering curricula, and appointing new college presidents and trustees. Homeschooling has skyrocketed in popularity as concerned parents follow Murray Rothbard’s advice in Education: Free and Compulsory: “For anyone who is interested in the dignity of human life, in the progress and development of the individual in a free society, the choice between parental and State control over the children is clear.”

Education is a critical arena in the battle of ideas. It’s why the Mises Institute is dedicated to teaching and promoting Austrian economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray Rothbard. The only way to achieve a free society is by countering, debunking, and replacing state propaganda with sound economics and critical thinking.

Join the Mises Institute in Tampa, Florida, for a fifth year in a row on Saturday, February 22, 2025, for an event on educating for liberty. Tom DiLorenzo, Jonathan Newman, and Timothy Terrell will speak on their experiences in academia, the future of education, and promising alternatives to state-controlled education.
