Drilling for our vast sources of domestic oil and gas is obviously in America's economic self-interest, but it's also a very good way to achieve world peace and advance our national security.
That's a point we've made for years, but this chart from our friend and investor extraordinaire David Bahnsen hammers home the point. When we drill less, our enemies drill more and get rich off of our idiotic and unworkable green energy policies.
Notice when Obama was president the big climb in Iranian production. Then Iranian production fell by half when Trump came into office. When Biden came in with his war on fossil fuels and weakening of secondary sanctions, Iranian production rose by 70%.
Just imagine how rich and dangerous Iran will become if we pursue "net zero" madness.
2) Elon Musk Thinks He Can Find $2 Trillion In Federal Waste
Speaking of cutting government spending, Elon Musk announced last night that he thinks a Government Efficiency Commission can discover $2 trillion of waste, inefficiency, and fraud in the budget. We've been suggesting that $1 trillion of savings could be found in a snap.
We just love the way Musk literally and figuratively shoots for the stratosphere. After the election, we will volunteer to help him find where all the skeletons are buried in our nearly $7 trillion federal budget. That's what we're here for.
3) FEMA Is Spending Billions on Welfare for Illegal Migrants
Speaking of areas in the budget that should be chainsawed... GOP governors such as Greg Abbott of Texas have suggested an "easy solution" to FEMA's funding shortfall after Helene and Milton: stop the subsidies now.
The Biden administration and media fact-checkers rushed to contradict Abbott and others for spreading "rumors" and distorting the evidence. But Abbott is right that migrant spending is ripe for cuts.
Overall, the federal government spent $67 billion last year on migrant services and costs. A significant chunk of that spending came from FEMA, which last year started a Shelter and Services Program for migrants. Spending has swelled to nearly $1 billion this year.
New York City was allocated $67 million for coping with 210,000 migrants who've entered in the last two years. Denver has been given $27 million to cope with an influx of 42,000 migrants over the same period. Even with those funds, Denver has had to cut $8.4 million in funding from its police department and $2.5 million from its fire department.
4) Voters Overwhelmingly Support Voter ID and Proof of Citizenship
The latest Gallup poll has 80%+ Americans supporting voter ID laws and citizenship requirements for voter registration. This is about as close to unanimous as any issue can get. We've mentioned before, blacks and Hispanics strongly support the idea. This doesn't sound "racist" to us.
5) Reagan's Famous "Time for Choosing" Speech Was 60 Years Ago Yesterday
Sunday marked the 60th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's famous "Time for Choosing" speech, his rallying cry for Americans to vote for Barry Goldwater over Lyndon Johnson.
Goldwater was swamped, but Reagan's speech so electrified the public that it instantly jump-started his political career.
Historian Steve Hayward notes the speech served as "a template – an understanding of government as ruinously ambitious and out of control, projecting weakness and uncertainty to our enemies abroad – that still defines conservatism today."
Reagan made great efforts to portray his views as common sense:
You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right. Well, I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There's only an up or down: man's old-aged dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism.
The specific issues may have changed since Reagan's seminal speech, but the themes he addressed are timeless. We hope some of the Big Government conservatives (NatCons) are paying attention.
