This is outrageous, John:

After holding $10 billion in emergency loans hostage to attempt a hostile
takeover of the United States Postal Service’s operations, Donald Trump
just made one of his top donors the new postmaster general.

Louis Dejoy will be the first head of the USPS in two decades who did not
rise through its ranks. Before this, he was in charge of fundraising for
the Republican National Convention. Yes, you read that correctly. Donald
Trump has appointed his former campaign staffer to run the USPS, in a year
when the election will be conducted, in large part, by mail.

The USPS has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic -- and Donald Trump
has so far refused to provide funding that’s already been approved by
Congress. Instead, he’s attempting to take over its operations and destroy
the Postal Service as we know it.

The United States Postal Service is an integral and indispensable part of
American life. We’re dependent on the post office for essential medicine,
supplies, and the ability to safely conduct our elections by mail. In a
recent article, American Postal Workers Union president Mark Dimondstein
said DeJoy will face major decisions about how the Postal Service
operates:

“He can choose to be a postmaster general who implements the destructive
plans of this White House: raising postal rates, cutting services,
undermining stable union and family-sustaining jobs and selling the
public Postal Service to corporations for their private profit,”
Dimondstein said in a statement Thursday. “And if that is his choice,
Mr. DeJoy will be met with stiff resistance from postal workers and the
people of this country."
