My Ectopic Pregnancy Was a Miscarriage, Not an Abortion |
by Kathy Athearn |
Democratic ads are portraying Republican candidates as controlling dictators who want to take away all rights from women. Several claim that Republicans would rather let women die than allow them to have an abortion. Not only are these ads deceptive, they are extremely painful to listen to - especially because I, too, had an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy that ruptured, and doctors had to perform an emergency surgery to save my life. But I did not have an abortion - I had a miscarriage. |

The electrical grid has been partially restored but has also collapsed at least three more times. Meanwhile, Hurricane Oscar killed six people, damaged more than 1,000 homes, and downed trees and power lines in the eastern part of the island. |

In an election cycle dominated by threats of violence - whether assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris's repeated claim that Trump is a "threat to democracy" - it should be no surprise that a majority of Americans anticipate violence following election day. |

Cuba Blacked Out: Memory and Present |
by Yoe Suarez |
My childhood memories have long nights of blackouts as a backdrop. My grandparents would take an armchair out to the doorway, seeking the breeze of the tropical night, often finding the bites of prolific mosquito populations. A piece of cardboard moved from one side to the other over my half-naked body. |

Dear Christian, Are You Able to Discern When Scripture Is Being Manipulated? |
by Sarah Holliday |
To manipulate is to lie. To lie is to speak falsely, and its purpose is always to deceive. The reality is that the Genesis 3 world we live in is infested with liars, manipulators, and people who will do anything to deceive to serve their selfish ambition. This practice, in and of itself, is dangerous, and certainly one the Christian is commanded to denounce. But perhaps most treacherous are those who manipulate Scripture to attempt justifying their ill-will. While a true believer ought not to be fooled by such antics, there remains countless people who are easily swayed by the floods of duplicity. |
