Email from 40 Days for Life The littlest sidewalk counselor John, When you go out and pray at your nearest 40 Days for Life vigil, you can save a baby from abortion without saying a word. Case in point: Last week, a tiny 40 Days for Life participant who has not yet spoken his first word saved a baby. Colleen in Wichita, Kansas, was praying with her baby boy when an out-of-state couple arrived at Planned Parenthood for an abortion. "They went in but later came out and told us they changed their mind," wrote Sue, the local vigil leader. "It was seeing that baby that made them realize they couldn't go through with the abortion." And that was just the start of a VERY big day in the Sunflower State. Another woman stopped and told a 40 Days for Life participant that she was about to have an abortion when something changed her mind. "She just had a strong urge to run out of the building and get away...and even said she wanted to yell at the women in the waiting room to get out and leave," Sue reported. Finally, a third couple accepted the invitation to visit a local pregnancy center for a free ultrasound--an offer that led them to choose life. The three couples who chose life had traveled from three different pro-life states--Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas--to have abortions. But because someone like YOU was there praying for them, each family went home safe from abortion! Redwood City, California A pair of 40 Days for Life volunteers were deep in prayer when a young woman walked up and tapped one of them on the shoulder. "She was...nicely dressed and very beautiful," reported the prayer warrior. "She was trying to decide what to do. There was no man in her life as a partner, so that made it even more difficult." But when the mom got to planned Parenthood, she saw the signs held by the vigil participants. Those signs made the difference! "She told us that she had decided to keep the baby," shared the volunteer. "She looked very happy and seemed very sure of her decision. We all rejoiced and thanked God." The woman then joined the 40 Days for Life volunteers as they finished their prayer--a prayer they modified to implore God's graces for the woman in her journey as a new mom! Tepic, Mexico A woman in Mexico joined her local 40 Days for Life campaign because her son had convinced his ex-girlfriend to have an abortion. The man was unsure whether he was the child's father. The new vigil participant and her mother joined the vigil to pray for a nonviolent solution to this difficult pregnancy... ...and those prayers were answered as the father relented, his baby saved by the prayers of a grandmother and great-grandmother! As they led him away they took hold of a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the county; and after laying the cross on him, they made him carry it behind Jesus. --Luke 23:26 Lord, teach us how to suffer alongside you. Grant us the joy of your company under the wood of the cross. Grant us the strength of Simon to help you on your way. We unite every tired step and discouraging defeat to your sacrifice for the redemption of all humanity. Amen.
