Greetings! Did you see my email from last week exposing U.S. Sugar’s plot to hoard Florida’s water for themselves that would increase toxic discharges? I’m asking Floridians to sign this petition to protect public use of our water! U.S. Sugar certainly noticed, and they’ve responded with smears calling me “the worst sort of politician.” I find it amusing. U.S Sugar is used to politicians that can be bought. All I’ve ever wanted to do was serve my country and my community the same way I did in the Army: service before self. They think calling me a bad politician is an insult, but I wear it as a badge of honor! With Congress writing a water bill that will impact communities all across the country and the Army Corps working on a new regulation schedule for Lake Okeechobee, U.S. Sugar has launched a massive lobbying effort to manipulate Florida’s water for their own profit. They have been using the coronavirus pandemic as a cover to enlist Congress to change the law to give them more water and take it from everybody else. If they succeed it will mean more discharges from Lake Okeechobee, more toxic algal blooms in our estuaries and less clean water for the Everglades.
