Transit Organizer Training: This Thursday, 5/14
Amazing Youth Advocates

A big Thank You to our donors!

Thanks to you, we raised over $4,700 to provide masks to Muni riders and operators! This means over 1,200 cloth masks to support operators, plus we'll continue to give out hundreds of disposable masks to riders who need them.

We also had the pleasure of talking with three Muni operators on Tuesday about what it's like to be driving a bus during COVID-19. Felix, Loree, and Shaun's stories were engaging, honest, and uplifting.

This campaign is just the start. Thanks to the quick response of SFMTA, our transit system is in a much better position than many others across the country. But it is still going to take a lot of creativity and advocacy to support and reboot our transit system.

We look forward to working more closely with the operators' union, SFMTA, and all of you to make sure essential public transit continues to be safe, reliable, and accessible in the coming months and years. As Felix mentioned in the webinar, "When we all work together, the product [transit] is so much better."

Transit Organizer Academy

Community organizing is fundamental to our work; it is a central strategy in raising the voices of everyday riders. It takes strategic planning, education, and honest relationship-building to mobilize people to action. But what does that look like?

We’re hosting a three-part online series focused on our work for better transit in San Francisco, and we invite you to join us to learn more about community organizing and the issues we face.

  • Session One. We'll discuss transformative community organizing, building power among riders, and how we use these techniques to inform our organizing work.
  • Session Two. We'll dive in to how Muni is structured - how do projects happen, who makes decisions and influences what transit looks like in the city, what are the processes, and how we can impact them.
  • Session Three. We'll share tools and best practices for how to develop, deepen, and maintain relationships as a community organizer. We'll go over how to conduct effective outreach and how to mobilize people to action!

Be part of a broader team of supporters and organizers, be ready to reach different communities (whether students, business owners, neighborhood organizations, or your own networks), and be ready to jump in whenever you’re able to help us reach more riders!

RSVP today for Session One
Thursday, May 14th
5:00pm - 6:00pm

San Francisco Transit Riders has been working with Lowell Peer Resources for over a year to empower high school students to address inequities in our transit system. One route in particular, the 29-Sunset, picks up students at over 40 schools across the city. Thanks to the advocacy of Lowell students, along with SF Transit Riders, SFMTA is now prioritizing improvements, and potentially a rapid line, on the 29-Sunset.
