Email from Rep. Gonzales Delivering for the District It’s my honor to fight for the people of TX-23 and deliver real solutions that strengthen our communities. Improving Healthcare in Rural Texas Recently, I was honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Uvalde Regional Behavioral Health Campus. This facility will provide essential mental health services to 32 counties across rural Texas, from the Bexar County line, to Uvalde, to the Texas-Mexico border. With its 24/7 availability, the Uvalde Regional Behavioral Health Campus will offer life-saving care, including crisis stabilization, outpatient services In 2021, I fought hard to secure $2 million in federal funding for this facility through my role on the House Appropriations Committee. Seeing this project come to life is a monumental step forward for rural healthcare access across the region. New Border Security Funding Since my first day in office, I’ve been focused on finding solutions to end the border crisis. Recently, I helped secure over $12 million for TX-23 law enforcement to enhance border security. This funding, awarded through the Operation Stonegarden grant program, enables local law enforcement to partner with Border Patrol to combat cartel activity, human smuggling, and drug trafficking. As the border crisis intensifies, transnational gangs like Tren De Aragua (TDA) continue to threaten the safety of our communities. Addressing this growing danger is a top priority of mine and exactly why I am fighting to advance over $2.6 million for a new, anti-gang intelligence unit in Bexar County. This unit will analyze criminal intelligence and combat threats from transnational criminal organizations like TDA. Uniquely located within the Bexar County Jail, the largest jail near the Texas-Mexico border, this intelligence unit will be a game changer in disrupting criminal enterprises before they take root. Backing our Law Enforcement Earlier this month, I was honored to attend the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) convention in El Paso. CLEAT is one of the most prominent advocates for law enforcement personnel in Texas. It’s always a privilege to spend time with those who dedicate their lives to protecting our communities, and I’m proud to support their efforts in ensuring officers have the rights and resources they deserve.
