Dear Friend,
Victory! After years of Earthjustice litigation and joint advocacy alongside communities affected by lead contamination, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) updated two vital rules for getting lead out of our communities.
There is no safe level of lead exposure for children. Yet, there is lead in our drinking water and lead dust found in paint used in schools, daycares, and homes.
These new rules come in response to successful lawsuits by Earthjustice and others, as well as advocacy by communities harmed by lead contamination. Over the last three years, over 103,000 comments were submitted by Earthjustice advocates alone on these two results.
The EPA strengthened the Lead and Copper Rule, requiring that almost all lead pipes in the U.S. are to be replaced within a decade and has set aside billions of dollars to help pay for it. In addition, millions of children and families are currently at risk in their own homes and childcare centers due to lead paint. Under the new rule, if any detectable level of lead is found in a residence or childcare facility, it would be identified as a “lead hazard.” These rules are an important step foward to eliminate lead exposure.
Our legal work combined with action taking is a winning combination that gets results. Nonetheless, our fight to protect the environment is more important than ever, and we need your support. Supporters like you rise to the occasion during every comment period and opportunity – and it makes a difference. Click here to take all the actions below on one page.

Urge the EPA to regulate a long-hidden source of PFAS
Today, hundreds of millions of plastic containers undergo a fluorination process that creates harmful PFAS that can leach into our products and make their way into our bodies. Tell the EPA to regulate this source of PFAS today.

Tell FERC to protect Puerto Rican communities from LNG
In 2018, New Fortress Energy began designing a large liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal in San Juan Harbor to import methane gas that would run through a pipeline to the nearby power plant. They violated federal law because they did not get approval from the Federal Regulatory Energy Commission (FERC). Urge FERC to schedule Spanish-speaking, in-person public meetings in Puerto Rico’s dangerous methane gas project area

Speak up to defend our climate
In the last several months, federal agencies have made big strides in finalizing important federal protections to protect public health and help our planet. These standards build on the historic climate investments in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). However, polluting industries that worked to weaken these rules are now enlisting allies in Congress to dismantle significant climate progress. Call on your Congressmember today to stop attacks by big polluters and their allies.

Finalize the strongest possible standards to clean up carbon pollution from existing gas plants.
For years Earthjustice has fought to clean up power plants and expedite the transition to clean energy. Coal and gas-fired power plants are responsible for more than 30% of U.S. carbon pollution. The Biden administration recently finalized historic standards that would set limits on the amount of carbon pollution existing coal and new gas-burning power plants are allowed to emit. Join us in urging the Biden administration to finish the job.
