VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump suffers the ultimate humiliation at his own rally
Nothing to be ashamed of that the Republican god-king is pulling in half-capacity rally crowds a 10 days before the election. Unless, of course, your entire claim to fame is that you can draw the biggest crowds the world has ever seen. In which case, yeah...

Daddy's home: Tucker Carlson's bizarre troll distills Trump's false promise to male voters
Amanda Marcotte, Salon: "Comparing liberals to a 15-year-old girl who slams her bedroom door in a tantrum, Tucker Carlson waxed poetic about the sexualized abuse of a minor. When dad gets home, you know what he says? ‘You’ve been a bad girl. You’ve been a bad little girl, and you’re getting a vigorous spanking right now,' Carlson fantasized, while the crowd of young conservatives cheered wildly. Trump's love of sexual violence turns most voters off, but as the rhetoric of sexual assault at the Georgia rally shows, the hardcore MAGA crowd loves this stuff. Sexual assault is a coward's way to feel powerful. Like kicking puppies or abusing children, it's about inflicting pain and humiliation on someone smaller, often after trapping them, as Trump did to Carroll in a department store dressing room. Or, in Carlson's fantasies, because the victim is your child — he made sure to emphasize children 'live in his house' — she has nowhere to escape. Sexual abuse is for men who are too weak and pathetic to pick on people their own size. So it is perfect for Trump and his fans who want to live vicariously through this fantasy of domination. As the cheers at the Georgia rally show, this fantasy has a lot of power with Trump's voters. But...when it comes to anything material Trump could offer male voters, the answer is "precisely nothing." He isn't interested in helping them get jobs or education or homes or wealth or anything that would substantively improve their lives. What Trump is offering men is, I'd argue, even worse than nothing. The cheap thrill of misogyny offered in rhetoric like Carlson's is obviously fun for a lot of men. There's a sugar rush in blaming all your problems on women, screaming about how you'd like to inflict violence on them for what Carlson described as being "disobedient." But as adrenaline-pounding as virulent misogyny is in the moment, in the longer term, it's just going to make men's problems much worse."

The right believes it has the Supreme Court votes to overturn labor law
Shaun Richman, In These Times: "The foundational 1935 labor law protecting workers is unconstitutional, according to major corporations and right-wing zealots who believe they have enough votes on the Supreme Court to overturn it. In the latest sign that anti-union forces will doggedly press the matter, a federal judge for the Northern District of Texas enjoined the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) from processing any allegations of employer violations of workers’ rights. The National Review hailed the decision as 'A Welcome Blow to the NLRB.' The arguments that the employers utilize, and even the immediate outcomes of these cases, are almost irrelevant to the ultimate goal: The right wing aims to repeal the 20th Century. But, in trying to repeal all the rights and protections workers gained during the New Deal, including the limited protections that workers currently enjoy for organizing and engaging in collective bargaining, killing the 1935 National Labor Relations Act (also known as the Wagner Act) would also mean the lifting of a host of restrictions on unions’ ability to carry out solidarity activism and effective economic sanctions. Are unions prepared for a return to 'the law of the jungle?''

"Our job is to flatten Gaza. No one will stop us"
Younis Tirawi and Sami Vanderlip, Dropsite News: “Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.” This is what the deputy commander of Israel’s 749 Combat Engineering Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Adi Bekore, posted on his personal Facebook account on October 9, 2023, just two days after the Hamas attacks of October 7. Like much of the rhetoric coming from all organs of the Israeli military since its assault on Gaza started, these words served as a stark warning of what was to come. Over the past year, the 749 Battalion has played an indispensable role in Gaza. Its soldiers are reservists — alumni of the combat engineering corps, which trains soldiers in demolition. The battalion comes in after combat units, toppling buildings and homes that managed to survive air strikes. At the time of writing, the 749 Battalion is operating in northern Gaza and Jabalia, where, even following Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s killing in southern Gaza, Israel’s campaign has intensified to the point of executions and depopulation. There, the battalion is seemingly racing to destroy as many buildings as possible. As one soldier put it, “We will leave them nothing!” The destruction inflicted by the Israeli military not only wipes out the current livelihood of the Palestinian people — it also erases their entire future. As soldiers have shared on social media, their goal is not just demolishing buildings; it is to crush the dreams, hopes, and symbols of those who live there. While many speak of the “day after,” what we see from these soldiers forces us to ask: What will be left of Gaza when that day comes?
