Did you know Virginia is the only state left in the South without an abortion ban? 

Ever since Donald Trump’s Supreme Court justices overturned Roe v. Wade, every other state in the South has implemented an abortion ban, undermining millions of women’s rights and freedoms. 

These cruel bans are forcing women to flee their home states just to get the health care they need — like a Florida woman named Emily who borrowed money from her grandmother to travel to Richmond, Virginia after her baby boy was diagnosed with a fatal chromosomal condition called Trisomy 18.

The story is heartbreaking to read. And what’s even more heartbreaking is that there are thousands of women like Emily who have been forced to flee their homes to Virginia. I’m glad our Commonwealth is a safe haven for women’s health care, but nobody should be forced to pay thousands of dollars and leave their home just to access care.

If Donald Trump and my opponent, Hung Cao, are elected in November, they will pass a national abortion ban, which would make stories like Emily’s even more tragic. 

On the issue of abortion, Trump and Cao are two sides of the same coin. Trump has said women who get them should be punished. And Cao compared abortion to the Holocaust. 

It’s sickening. 

Here’s the problem: The GOP believes they have a real chance at winning here in Virginia, giving them a clear path to pass their national anti-abortion legislation.
