John,
Our Social Security system is not a piggy bank. It’s a system that we built over generations to provide financial security in the event of retirement, disability, or the death of a loved one.
But the Trump administration keeps finding new ways to attack it.
Over the weekend, the Washington Post revealed that senior Trump administration officials are pushing a plan to allow people to receive $10,000 now in exchange for delaying their Social Security retirement.1 This scheme, called “the Eagle Plan” (for some reason) is the latest development in the Republican War on Seniors.
No one asked for any compromises from corporations before shoveling trillions of dollars in bailout money to them. Congressional Democrats want to send $2000/month to everyone in America until this crisis is over. But the Trump administration is refusing to support this plan. Instead, they are singularly focused on defunding and destroying our Social Security system.
We’ve fought back and won every time Trump has tried to destroy our Social Security system. This will be no exception. Chip in $7 to fight back!
First, Trump spent the first year of his Presidency trying to destroy Medicare and Medicaid, and replace them with Trumpcare.
Then, he proposed cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in every budget his administration released.
Now, his administration is trying simultaneously to eliminate Social Security’s dedicated funding―often called the “payroll tax”―and force Americans who lost their jobs to agree to work until they die in exchange. All because Trump’s pandemic response was so disastrous that nursing homes are being forced to set up “death rooms.”2
We’re fighting to protect seniors from Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Chip in $7 to fight with us!
Thanks,
Michael Phelan
