Hi John.
It’s been such a pleasure to visit with Kansans from all walks of life over the past few weeks. So today, I thought I’d share a quick update on what I’ve been up to.
If we haven’t had a chance to catch up recently, I hope you’ll click here to take my quick survey. Listening to you always helps me do better.
First, I was glad to recently meet Gretchen, a fourth grader at Belmont Elementary School in Shawnee who invited me to her class. I was more than happy to accept.
It was such a treat to give them a quick lesson on how our government works, and to share what a typical day looks like in the U.S. House of Representatives.
A few days later, I had the pleasure of meeting Jimmie Williams and his family at my Overland Park office. I was glad to have the chance to learn more about their family’s story.
Jimmie’s father was awarded the Legion of Merit in 1981, but he passed away soon afterwards. Unfortunately, this award wasn’t recorded on his military records.
Jimmie’s now 90-year-old mother tried numerous times to fix this issue over the years without any luck. But I’m pleased to share that after Jimmie contacted my office, my team was able to help fix this issue so his father could finally have the recognition he rightly earned.
If you or someone you know is a veteran who needs assistance, please feel free to visit my Help for Veterans page to learn more about how we can serve you.
I was also fortunate to visit a wetland in Gardner recently. I met with the good folks at Ducks Unlimited, who do amazing work conserving our wildlands.
I want to thank them again for taking the time to show me around one of their conservation sites. It was a great discussion on the importance of preserving our wetlands and boosting outdoor recreation opportunities.
And just the other day, I hosted local leaders from all around our region for a Community Conversation on preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The upcoming World Cup presents some terrific economic opportunities for our region. Many tourists throughout the world will visit our area and spend their dollars at our local businesses. But it also comes with its challenges, and our region needs to start planning and preparing now to take advantage of this opportunity.
These are just some of the highlights of what an incredible privilege it is to serve Kansans in the U.S. House of Representatives. I’m always meeting interesting people every day and seeing how we can make a difference together.
Because as I see it, my job is about serving every person and corner of our community – regardless of party. Whether we agree on everything or not is beside the point. Everyone deserves a government that works for them – not just for special interests, big corporations, or the extremes of either party.
It’s an honor to serve you. If you have any questions or would like to share your views, feel free to contact me.
My warmest regards,
Sharice L. Davids Member of Congress
