John,
Since Israel has prohibited U.S. and international journalists’ access to Gaza for the past year, we’ve largely witnessed this genocide unfold through cell phone videos and first-person testimony of Palestinians forced to document their own destruction.
You may remember when the Israeli military claimed there was a Hamas command center underneath a major hospital in Gaza, an excuse used to drop bombs on this and every hospital in the area, destroying Palestinians’ entire healthcare infrastructure.
Israel is now attempting to use the same playbook in Lebanon, where it’s claiming Hezbollah has an underground bunker underneath a major Beirut hospital. There is no excuse that justifies bombing healthcare facilities.
This time around, Israel cannot ban international media outlets from investigating on the ground, and multiple journalists have already debunked these claims.
It’s beyond time for U.S. and international reporters to be granted unfettered access to Gaza. The Palestinian people deserve transparency, accountability, and freedom of the press, and the world must see the full extent of Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing that our U.S. tax dollars are funding.
A group of 64 House Democrats, including all Justice Democrats incumbents, have signed a letter urging the Biden administration to demand Israel grant unimpeded media access to Gaza.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
