My sister, who is a teacher, and my niece and nephew went back to school last week.
My wife and two of my god-children go back to school on Monday.
And everyday that they are there, I worry. It's not the sharp, painful worry like when a loved one is in the hospital. It's the dull ache that's always in the back of your mind. The fear that today might be the day that someone who shouldn't have a gun, gets one and goes into their schools.
You know the most frustrating thing about this fear? There is a bill that has been sitting in the Senate since February, waiting for Mitch McConnell to bring it to a vote that could take care of this.
The senate must do its job. Contact your senators today and demand that they pass this bill.
Passing this bill won't alleviate all, or even most, of the fear I feel everyday when those I love go off to school, but it's a start. One that we owe to those we love.
Sincerely,
Dr. John Biggan
