I love parades, but I'll never ride in a car for one. I always walk! And I've always passed out campaign-branded rubber duckies — themed, of course, to the spirit of the parade. Earlier this year, I was excited to have my six-year-old son Nelson help me work the parade route with such joy and determination.
The paradegoers loved it. Maybe not all of them. At one point, Nelson ran to a little girl seated on the sidewalk and handed her a green St. Patrick's Day duck. Before she could say "thank you," her dad scolded Nelson, "We're for Trump."
Nelson looked at me, then back at the angry man. Without missing a beat, Nelson asked, "Who's Trump?"
And it occurred to me: That's what this election is about. It's our opportunity to make Trump a distant memory for millions of America's children who will have no living memory of Trump's awful reign. Sure, we adults will never forget what he put us through. The friends we've lost, the holiday dinners that were ruined, and the endless anxiety over each Trump election. We won't forget how much he tested us and our democracy. But our children are blessed not to have to carry that burden. That is, only if we get this right.
I have done everything possible in my personal and professional capacity to stop Donald Trump. I helped lead the Russia investigation, served as an impeachment manager for his second impeachment, filed a personal suit related to January 6, testified in the Colorado case to keep Trump off the ballot for committing insurrection, and haven't stopped working to beat him on November 5. My recent work to stop him includes raising nearly one million dollars for Kamala Harris, appearing as a campaign surrogate, producing viral ads to animate the stakes of the election, and supporting dozens of congressional candidates to help us win the House. I'm all in. And I know you are, too.
We have 10 days to get this right. What we do now will make the difference in the seven battleground states and the dozens of House races that will determine who certifies the next election, and who leads the Congress. Did you know the last Congress was decided by a difference of 6,675 votes spread across a few seats? It will be THAT close again.
