Hi John,
You may have seen our other emails this week highlighting the progress we’ve made towards making our communities better. Over this past year, while running for Congress and working for California residents as an Assemblywoman, I’m proud to tell you about a few more bills I authored which were signed into law.
Here are a few more examples of the progress my team and I made this year:
Addressing Antisemitism on College Campuses (AB 2925) makes sure that colleges include training on the top five groups experiencing discrimination and hatred in the State in their existing anti-discrimination and diversity programs. This will create safer and more inclusive spaces for all students, and for the first time help ensure that antisemitism is included in these training programs. As we see increases in antisemitism across California, I have been working closely with my colleagues in the Legislative Jewish Caucus and stakeholders including the Jewish Public Affairs Committee to ensure that all students are welcome and safe at college.
Many housing developments near transit were paying high traffic impact fees, even though they create less traffic. Lowering Traffic Fees for Housing Near Transit (AB 2553) makes it easier to build affordable housing by reducing traffic impact fees for more housing developments. It also redefines a “major transit stop” to reflect post-COVID service levels so more housing developments automatically qualify for reduced traffic impact fees.
The Poison-Free Wildlife Act (AB 2552) places restrictions on the use of the most dangerous types of rat poisons that are affecting non-target wildlife at alarming rates. This new law creates stronger rules to protect animals such as Griffith Park’s famous mountain lion P-22, who suffered from rodenticide poisoning. It also allows the Attorney General to prosecute those who willfully break the law
I’m proud to have worked on these laws, and I’m committed to doing even more for our community. With ballots already being cast, can you chip in whatever you can today to help us bring proven, effective leadership to Washington?
