In the six years since I entered the political world, I have seen a lot of lies and cynical tactics. A lot. But the play being run by PACs tied to right-wing billionaire Elon Musk is a new low.

A PAC largely funded by Elon Musk called “Future Coalition PAC” is sending mailers and texts, and targeting digital ads to the Jewish, Arab, and Muslim communities in Michigan and Pennsylvania with opposite messages.

To Jewish voters, they accuse Vice President Kamala Harris of “emboldening anti-semites” and being insufficiently supportive of Israel.

To Arab and Muslim voters, they claim Harris has given “unwavering support for Israel.” Even more cynically, they feature photos of Harris and her Jewish husband, Doug Emhoff, calling them the “ultimate pro-Israel power couple” and saying that the Vice President “leans on Jewish husband Doug Emhoff to advise on high level pro-Israel policies.”

These deceptive tactics are being used in our race as well — some of the mailers and texts to Muslim and Arab voters feature Kamala Harris and I with similar messaging.

As Michiganders know, our state has been roiled by the conflict in the Middle East. At a time when there is so much pain among both our Jewish communities and our Arab and Muslim communities, it is, frankly, disturbing to see something that is so blatantly trying to deceive people and sow distrust between Michiganders. And it only reinforces how Trump and his allies have no other solution than to trick voters and say all this to get their vote.

It’s exactly the kind of political tactic that voters are sick of. It tears at the fabric of our communities. And it’s funded largely by a billionaire who is only looking out for himself.
