Contact Me Here   Inflation Is the Cruelest Tax of All The American economy cannot endure four more years of the Biden-Harris Administration's economic policies. When President Trump left office, overall inflation stood at a record low 1.4%. Now, home prices are up 47%, eggs are up 53%, gas is up 45%, electricity is up 31%, beef is up 30%, and car payments are up 20%. This inflation is a tax levied on Americans by the Biden-Harris administration, and it is a direct result of their reckless spending, misguided energy policy and excessive regulations. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris promised that “nobody making under $400,000 bucks would have their taxes raised, period." What a grotesque lie that was. Now, in total, Americans are spending a staggering $13,200 a year more to buy the same goods they did four years ago. Real wages continue to remain lower than during the Trump administration, and a shocking two-thirds of Americans currently report living paycheck to paycheck. This is all thanks to the direct tax of inflation that the Biden-Harris administration levied on Americans. We must return to the common-sense economic principles that delivered the greatest economy in the history of our country. Our Northern Border is Under Siege The surge in illegal crossings at the Northern Border poses a serious threat to our national security. Since the start of the Biden-Harris administration, 85% of individuals on the terror watchlist attempting to enter our country illegally have done so via the Northern Border. Recent data reveals that more people crossed the Swanton Sector of the Northern Border in 2023 than during the entire period from 2012 to 2022. In FY 2024, that record has already doubled, with 15,612 encounters reported from October to July. To address this critical issue, I have introduced legislation to establish a Northern Border Coordination Center. This initiative will ensure that the Department of Homeland Security effectively implements the Northern Border Strategy, enhances training, and improves information-sharing among federal, state, local, and international partners. By doing so, we can secure the Northern Border and protect NY-24. New Yorkers deserve a government that prioritizes securing our borders and keeping our communities safe. I will continue to advocate for policies that strengthen border security, support law enforcement, and safeguard the safety of our families. The Task Force Finds that the Assassination Attempt on Trump was Preventable The Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump released its first report after months of investigating the security failures on July 13, 2024. Based on 23 transcribed interviews with local law enforcement officials, thousands of pages of documents from local, state, and federal authorities, and testimony from the Task Force's public hearing on September 26, it showed that the attempt on President Trump's life was preventable. Here are some key takeaways: The Secret Service needed more planning and coordination with state and local law enforcement before and during the rally on July 13. The Secret Service did not include the AGR complex, from which the shooter fired, and its surrounding area within the secure perimeter. Local sniper teams positioned inside the AGR complex had limited visibility and were not in a position to monitor the entire property. There was no unified command post to streamline communication between the Secret Service and state and local partners. Critical information regarding Crooks and the escalating threat at the AGR complex was delayed due to fragmented communication and unclear command structures on July 13. Testimony from local law enforcement indicates they fired a shot at Crooks before the USSS sniper delivered the fatal shot. Crooks did not use a ladder to reach the AGR roof; instead, he climbed up via an air conditioning unit. The autopsy report shows that a single bullet killed Crooks. I am dedicated to ensuring that an event like this does not happen again. READ THE FULL REPORT HERE As your representative in Congress, my top priority is championing legislative initiatives that benefit you and your families. Each week, I review numerous bills and letters, engaging in thorough discussions with members of our community to determine which actions to support and address your needs. Below are a few bills I recently cosponsored. H.R. 9311 – Justice for 9/11 Act: This bill would require that the death sentence be available for any perpetrator of the 9/11 attacks. Recently, the Biden administration attempted to enter into a plea deal with three of the 9/11 terrorists that would remove the death penalty as an option for sentencing, despite these individuals heinous crimes. While this proposed plea deal was reversed, we must ensure that the Biden administration cannot take the death penalty off the table again. H.R.9351 – Save our Safety-Net Hospitals Act: This bill would correct funding shortfalls through the Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) program, by accounting for unreimbursed costs associated with Medicare-Medicaid dual beneficiaries. DSH funding helps preserve access to care at hospitals and health systems that serve the most vulnerable populations, and is critical to several New York hospitals to remain operational. H.R. 5103 – The Fishery Improvement to Streamline Untimely Regulatory Hurdles Post Emergency Situation (FISHES) Act: This bill requires the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to streamline the approval of requests for fishery resource disaster assistance funding and enact a 30 day decision requirement to deny or approve state spending plans. Celebrating NY-24's Apple Growers on National Apple Day NY-24 is one of the top agricultural regions in the Northeast and home to Wayne County, ranked 3rd in the nation for apple production. This week, we celebrated National Apple Day by thanking our hardworking farmers who make our district a leader in growing the best apples. The agriculture industry is the backbone of our community and has driven our economy for generations. That’s why I hosted a Farm Bill listening tour to hear directly from constituents across NY-24 about the issues impacting our farmers. These conversations helped shape my agriculture plan, which outlines a comprehensive approach to promote pro-farmer policies in Congress on your behalf. I am dedicated to giving farmers and producers the certainty and opportunities they need to thrive. ICYMI: Celebrating the Service of our Vietnam Veterans at a Commemorative Pinning Ceremony Thank you to the 40 Vietnam veterans who joined us for last week’s commemorative pinning ceremony in Wayne County. We honored each Veteran with a commemorative pin to thank them for their service. When these brave men returned home from war, they were often not greeted with the praise and respect they deserved. It was an honor to right this wrong and to recognize and present these veterans with the respect and gratitude they have long deserved.
