Biz here with a confession — I never fully recovered from Obama 2008. That election turned me into an organizer, and these final days before an election brings out the nitty-gritty organizer in me. Here’s what I’m focused on: Right now, in many races up and down the ballot, the margins look slim. If recent elections are any indication, these small margins will have huge implications:
It’s time to focus everything on turning out Democrats to vote. Those margins from past years show that every get–out–the–vote (GOTV) conversation we have in the next 10 days can help decide the outcome in the most important races for our democracy across the country.
But after witnessing the 2016 loss first hand, I was even more aware of the huge structural issue looming over every election — gerrymandering and the need for redistricting reform. It was a tangible problem that I wanted to fix. That’s why I do this work, and I know that Democrats like you support the NDRC’s multi-pronged approach to address this root issue facing our democracy. The NDRC uses every possible tool to create a more representative democracy. Right now we’re focused on supporting Democracy Defenders in the most impactful races across the country. After Election Day, we’ll keep our full-throated effort going across multiple platforms to push leaders to uphold reform and pass new pro-democracy legislation. We’ll build cutting-edge mapping infrastructure. And we’ll start working to ensure a fair and accurate 2030 Census. Thanks Biz
