Fellow Conservative,

There are 10 days left before Election Day. Heritage Action has worked to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat by supporting election integrity legislation across the county. Now is the time to exercise your right to vote as an American citizen.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with your polling location and ballot before Election Day!

Significant attention has been given to the Presidential race, and for good reason. But that isn’t the only election happening. Candidates are running at the national, state, and local level and exercising your voting rights to the fullest means weighing in on those races too.

A recent report from The Heritage Foundation shows why these races can be so consequential. This study shows how the cost of energy in a state is heavily affected by that state’s legislators.

For example, of the ten states with the highest electricity costs, seven of them are completely run by Democrats. And of the ten states with the lowest electricity costs, eight of them are run completely by Republicans.

There are many reasons, but the three key takeaways the report explains are:

  1. States with renewable energy mandates tend to pay significantly more for electricity
  2. Many of the states with the most affordable electricity have rejected stringent renewable energy mandates and instead rely heavily on traditional energy sources
  3. The forced shift toward renewable energy, combined with federal policies to reduce the use of fossil fuel, has raised costs for grid operations - and households - nationwide

In many ways, states can have a more direct impact on your life than the federal government. This is why Heritage Action works with the grassroots to engage lawmakers both in the nation’s capital and in their state’s capital.

States like Pennsylvania are spending $88 more on energy per month than they were in January 2021. In total, this means the average Pennsylvania has spent over $3,507 more on energy due to poor Leftist energy policy.

State-level policy can strangle the kind of cheap energy production that sources such as natural gas can produce. At the same time the Biden-Harris administration has continued its war on reliable, affordable energy. Together, they have created the perfect conditions for energy prices to skyrocket.

So when you vote, don’t just consider your federal representatives, make sure you also seriously consider your state and local representatives as well.

The variety of outcomes that could result from this election are numerous. One thing we do know however is that after the election, Senate Republicans will face a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pick the next Senate Republican leader. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will step down from the role in November, ending a 17-year run as Republicans’ top-ranking senator.

This provides conservative senators a chance to secure commitments from the candidates vying to replace Mitch McConnell to enact critical reforms to how Senate Republicans work together and to ensure the American people have more say in the laws that govern their lives.

This opportunity is of particular importance for conservatives given that the odds of a Republican majority in the Senate are very strong. As this debate in the Senate develops, Heritage Action will make sure that the voices of the conservative grassroots are heard in the process.

Exciting opportunities are on the horizon, and we look forward to continuing to advance conservative policy ideas with you.
