Preview of my weekend reading list

As we enter the final week of the election, the news media has finally recognized that Republicans are filing a barrage of litigation aimed at sowing confusion and undermining the election. In story after story, the media recites these efforts. Yet, missing from much of the coverage is the most important fact: Republicans losing these cases at an astounding rate.

For sure, there has been coverage of some of the GOP’s highest profile defeats — such as the cases striking down Georgia’s last minute election subversion rules and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision to require counties to allow voters who made technical errors in voting by mail to cast provisional ballots on Election Day.

But the media’s reporting of these high-profile cases as individual events obscures the larger story. It misses the forest for the trees.

This week in news you miss, we bring you the forest by showing you how each of these trees is part of the elaborate effort of Republicans – state actors, political parties, and activists – to undermine free and fair elections, how they are systematically failing and democracy is winning.

YOUR WEEKEND READING LIST

In recent weeks, we have seen Republican-controlled states engage in illegal voter purges, while also suing to force the federal government to aid in their illegal behavior. Earlier this week, a Virginia federal court blocked this effort. This follows a similar ruling against Alabama.
